Ranked 13th in all of engineering
and 5th in mechanical engineering in the world

J.N. Reddy (http://mechanics.tamu.edu) of J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering is ranked No. 13 in engineering of all fields. He is among top 0.015% of all six million scientists worldwide. He is listed in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics as subfields. Also, he is ranked No. 5 worldwide in Mechanical Engineering alone.

Dr. Reddy, the Oscar S Wyatt Endowed Chair Professor in J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, is a highly-cited researcher, author of 21 textbooks and nearly 700 journal papers, and a leader in the applied mechanics field for more than 45 years. He is known worldwide for his significant contributions to the field of applied mechanics through the authorship of widely used textbooks on the linear and nonlinear finite element analysis, variational methods, composite materials and structures, and continuum mechanics and elasticity. His pioneering works on the development of shear deformation theories (that bear his name in the literature as the Reddy third-order plate theory and the Reddy layerwise theory) have had a major impact and have led to new research developments and applications. Many of his books and research papers are cited in engineering worldwide, leading to the high ranking in engineering.

2019-Worldrank

This data was gathered in a Stanford University worldwide citation survey, published in PLoS. Scopus citation data for 6 million scientists in 22 major fields and 176 sub-fields were analyzed. The survey, deposited in Mendeley Data, covered citations during the period 1996–2017. 100,000 scientists were sorted and ranked by a composite point index. The index excludes self-citations. It is filtered by six different weights, taking into account the first, last or corresponding author, the number of authors per paper (e.g., 1, 3, 20), reciprocal citations, etc. Both living and deceased authors cited during that period are covered.
